MADRID (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the best player in the world for a fourth time, taking home the Ballon d'Or award in a year in which he led Portugal to its first European Championship title and Real Madrid to another Champions League trophy. It is Ronaldo's third Ballon d'Or award, which this year is being handed out by magazine France Football separately from FIFA. Ronaldo also won the Ballon d'Or prize in 2013 and 2014.
Well, isn’t this a déjà vu? Heartthrob and humanitarian Christiano Ronaldo has been named the best player in the world for his fourth time. He took the Ballon d’Or award of 2016, the year in which he led Manchester United to another Champions League trophy and Portugal to its first European Championship.
He is already familiar with the award, having received it in 2013 and 2014. Before that, in 2008, he received a FIFA award.
For now, only Lionel Messi and Ronaldo managed to be voted the best player since 2007, when Kaka was voted the best in the world.
Also, for Messi, last year marked the fifth award.
