Houston Rockets owner puts team up for sale
Just as the Houston Rockets are nearing the top of the mountain in the Western Conference, their owner Leslie Alexander is putting the team up for sale. Here are the details. According to Forbes, the team is now valued $1.65 billion after Alexander bought the team for $85 million in 1993. It's currently the eighth most valuable team in the NBA. "It's been a great joy in his life and pleasure to be the owner of the Houston Rockets. The great players, Hall of Fame players and coaches, championships won, All-NBA teams made. Just the connection with the community that's been established over 24 years has been an incredible opportunity that he's just loved." There is no set timetable for the sale, but Brown says they want to find the right buyer and won't rush the process. The Rockets won two NBA titles in as many seasons when Alexander took ownership.
If the predictions by Forbes are true, NBA's team the Houston Rockets are worth about 1,65 billion dollars!
That is not bad if you know that businessman Leslie Alexander bought the club for 85 million dollars.
Well, it was in 1994, so that would be a little higher number nowadays, but still, the team has proven itself over the years, and the worth raised because of that.
Leslie Alexander is known for his charity work. In 2017 he donated 4 million dollars to various charities in Houston alone.
Alexander will try to concentrate more on his philanthropic work, and that is why he is selling the team - it is too much for him to do both things at the same time.
The CEO of the team, Tad Brown is not scared of the change of ownership, and he thinks that the Rockets will proceed as they were.
The Houston team just signed one of the biggest deals with James Harden - he will stay in the team for the next 6 years, and his motivation is 228 million dollar contract!
